Xenetic Biosciences Chief Executive Officer M. Scott Maguire will be participating in the London Stock Exchange VIP Roundtable in Moscow on Monday 12 September 2011.
The “Ask the CEOs” VIP Roundtable is being organised to coincide with the UK Prime Minister’s official visit to Moscow next week and participants will include key players in the UK and Russia Capital Markets including Xavier Rolet, CEO of the London Stock Exchange Group; Dmitry Pankin, Head of Russia’s Federal Financial Markets Service; Nick Baird, CEO of UK Trade & Investment; and Ruben Aganbegyan, CEO of MICEX Group.
Xenetic is providing the core technologies that lie at the heart of the transformational transaction announced in London earlier this month by which, inter alia, the Russian state-sponsored nanotechnology fund, Rusnano, will invest circa US$45m into a new Russian drug development company, SynBio LLC, which, in turn will enter into a Co-Development Agreement with Xenetic for the development of up to six novel drug products using Xenetic’s patented platform drug technologies. With this Co-Development Agreement in place, Xenetic now has 12 products in various stages of development in Russia. These 12 candidates cover a range of markets from potential blockbusters therapies for the likes of diabetes and anemia to orphan drug markets like cystic fibrosis and acute myeloid leukemia.
This transaction is the culmination of a nearly two-year development effort which started on 4th December 2009 when Scott Maguire delivered a technology presentation in London at the “Russia –UK Venture Forum” sponsored by the London Stock Exchange. The Russian delegation to the Forum was led by Mr Anatoly Chubais, the Chairman of Rusnano. The capital from Rusnano combined with the infrastructure of the Skolkovo Project in Moscow is the tangible commitment of the Russian government to encourage innovation in the nanotechnology sectors for both IT and pharmaceuticals with the aim of reducing Russia’s economic dependence on natural resources. The Skolkovo Project is designed to become Russia’s “Silicon Valley” and Xenetic is honoured to play a significant role by which Russia will establish itself as an important player in the global pharmaceutical sector.
